The following post was written by Pastor Corey in October of 2020. This takes place while he was serving at Victory Bible Church and also doing an IT job.
The past couple of weeks (in September/October 2020) I have been interesting driving to my bi-vocational job (working in IT). My shift starts at 6:30 AM so I am normally on the road by 5:50 AM. One of the main roads I drive on was paved recently and the normal bright lines on the roads are not there. You will see from the video below how it goes from clear boundaries and lines on the road to barely any. As I have been driving the road, I have had to trust God that I do not cross-over where the middle line is nor go too far to the right off the road. I started thinking on my drive as well as after how much this road is like Christian walk. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
The Word of God is a light in our life. It illuminates sin in our life. The Holy Spirit uses the Word to illuminate the truth in the Bible and how to apply it in our life. Yet, the Bible cannot do this if you are not in it. If you are only being fed by the Word of God once a week when you attend church, you are starving yourself. Not only that it is like going from the area of road with the clear lines to the darkness. As you can tell from the newly paved area there are temporary markers in the middle on the side, but not the clear boundary lines that existed beforehand.
In your Christian walk if you are not in the Word you may drift into the wrong lane or drift off the path, both can be disastrous. Earlier in Psalm 119 the psalmist writes, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (verse 11). In Psalm 1 the psalmist says of God’s word (Torah/law) that the blessed person has delight in the law of the LORD, and in God’s law he mediates day and night. Are you reading, studying, memorizing, meditating, praying, thinking, and living God’s Word? Make sure you are in it so you don’t drifted to the right or to the left, but stay the course on the narrow way that God has called us to go.
