Greetings!
We asked you to pray about our malfunctioning printer which is critical to our
producing teaching material for the Manobo Bible teachers. We spent the last
three days in the city trying to get it fixed. It worked for one sided printing
when we took it to the repair people. Now is doesn't print at all!
However, we have ordered a new printer of a different brand (Kyocera). It is sold by a national company that sells laser printers and copiers to businesses. It can be serviced and repaired right at the place where we are buying it. It is supposes to arrive on Friday. The company has agreed to let us try it there in their office to see if it will do what we need it to do. If not, we won't have to buy it. This is of the Lord as normally here in the Philippines, once you order something you are obligated to buy it.
PLEASE PRAY that when we try out the printer we
will be able to try it out thoroughly enough to know if it will do the job for
us. One of the problems in finding a printer is that most printers here that
print on both sides of the paper - in our case, 2 pages on one side and 2 pages
on the other for booklets - will only do this on 14" paper which is not
available here in the Philippines! This one is supposed to also print on 13"
paper which is available here. It may take a bit of work to set it up so we can
see if it really does.
We hope to fly back to our tribal village with our new printer next week so we
can get back to work, but between rainy weather and a very full flight schedule
we need your PRAYERS in order for it to happen.
A year ago we asked to pray about the visa situation for missionaries here in
the Philippines. At that time the Philippine immigration people were saying that
a new visa would have to be applied for each year. After 5 years we would have
to leave the country for one year before we could again apply for a visa. That
plan was changed so we wouldn't have to leave the country for a year. Now the
plan is that they will give visas good for five years, but we will have to leave
the country for one year after each five year visa before applying again. This
would mean that we would have to leave the Philippines for one year after our
current visa expires this coming June.
The visa requirements are constantly in a state of change. We might or might not
have to leave the country for a year in June. PLEASE PRAY that what will be done
will be what is best for the spread of God's Word in this country, and that we
missionaries will all be happy with what He allows concerning visas! It is not
easy to think of having to leave for a year, although we would continue working
on translation and Bible lessons while in the States.
